[Derek is on the porch of house 45, carefully carving a wooden stake. He's already gotten the shape and the point, and now he's very carefully putting designs in the side of the wood. He will glance up and nod at the new person passing by, although there is a slight frown; it wasn't time for the new feathers yet, was it?]

[She's pauses, almost flashing that look of 'deer in the headlights'. You didn't change as much as she thought, Derek. But she keeps herself in check and offers a sheepish look.]

Ah. Hey. Would you mind... filling me in on things?

[Might as well do the new person dance. She hasn't seen it for a long while.]

[Derek cocks his head sideways, and then nods and smiles a little. The stake is put down next to several others. And he stands.]

Sure thing. Name's Derek. What can I do for you?

Derek, I'm-My name's Eli. I'm a little [a lot] confused about where I am, what's going on, all that good stuff...

[Derek will nod. This is not unusual]

Well, you're in a place called Luceti. It's an enclosure maintained by people called the Malnosso. They're scientists. Their science is also responsible for dragging you here, even though they claim they can't control it. And we're also trapped as well as used for experiments and as cannon fodder for a war against their enemies, called the Third Party.

The wings are vital to your survival, and if they're removed, you'll die. The bar code on your neck, no one is sure aaout, but it's probably a tracking device and likely holds information on you that the Malnosso would need.

... Sounds messy. No one's been able to stop them?

[She has heard these very questions 1,000,000 times, man.]

[derek_bliss]

Not so far; folks have been trying, though.

[By now, Derek's starting to take in details of what she looks like, and he frowns just a little. She seems familiar.]

People manage to go home sometimes, though. No one knows what triggers it.

[She looks down.]

So everyone's stuck here behind the barrier unless they get lucky.
