[Background] Yagyuu is a normal middle-schooler [as normal as you can get for Rikkai, anyway], who lives contentedly with his parents and his younger sister. He attends school at Rikkai Daigaku Fuzoku, and is a regular on its tennis team, long renowned for being champions in the region and in the nation. Rikkai are the kings of tennis who will pwn you without even trying, so do not stand up to them. On this team, Yagyuu usually plays doubles with Niou; they work together well, and are considered Rikkai's best doubles pair. One of their most famous tricks occurs during the Kantou region finals against Seigaku, in which they dress up and pretend to be each other in order to fool the opposing team. This switch works very well, needless to say, and it's clear they're both rather talented at it. The switch idea comes up again just before Nationals start up, when Yagyuu intervenes in a situation and ends up playing doubles with Seigaku's Kaidoh switched in order to keep the opponents from collecting their data.
[Personality] Yagyuu is known as the "Gentleman." On the surface, he appears to be nothing more than a quiet, intelligent, studious, helpful and somewhat uptight middle-school boy. To be fair, he is all of these things, and he tries not to let you forget it. But he's also far more dangerous than he will ever let most people see. Behind the good student is a sort of cold ruthlessness as well as a definite mean streak that can make Yagyuu truly frightening sometimes. He's quite good at being Niou, which says something, and he clearly enjoys being able to take off the mask of politeness in order to be snarky and even downright mean. When he's simply Yagyuu, though, he will generally keep his expression mostly closed and his posture always polite-- though there is always that slight change of expression that means that he's not pleased. Yagyuu does not admit that he likes doing mischievous things, and up to some point believes that he has to be the responsible one, but he will often find himself giving in to Niou anyway.
[Specialties/Abilities] Mad tennis skillz, obviously. His trademark shot is the Laser Beam, a straight shot that's incredibly fast and dangerously effective. He also has this ability to imitate Niou highly well, from looks to posture to speech to tennis [even more remarkable in the fact that Yagyuu is right-handed and Niou is left-handed]. Also is the only one who can figure out what's going on in Niou's head.
