Why? India's population is more than a Billion. The idea is to be the first in a Billion citizens to get your hands on Vista. No way does it mean that Microsoft is expecting every child, young, adult or aged to buy a copy of Windows.

Seldom do ppl buy Windows. It typically always comes as hidden costs through OEMs.

BTW, I'm a linux fan, and have a strong dislike for Windows :)

Well the domain i work on is designed to eliminate this divide. Anyways I would rather have a person on Linux than on pirated windows.

BTW any particular reason for hating Windows or just going by "Microsoft is evil" philosophy.

Naah.. thats not the reason :) .. that way technically every proprietary company is evil.. Google, Apple, everyone..

I'm just too used to Linux and find Windows too crippled. (Just use it on an odd day when I feel like playing Quake:) )

I agree with you here that usability and power cannot go hand in hand. One of the 2 has to be compromised.

True. Mac I guess chose the other extreme, that of maximum usability and minimal power. Its so much more closed and inextensible than even Windows. Windows I guess chose a compromise between the two, though one could argue that Mac is more usable than Windows, and Linux is more powerful.

I assume you would have tried out Visa by now. How do you like it?

Well, i have been running on Vista for the last 10 months now. I think it is really good if you have a good machine. Though i am running it on my 2001 laptop (the first P4 laptop from dell, 8MB Video RAM et al) and it works just fine, but it just breezes through in my office machine.
Network performance is the one to watch out for. I don't know what magic those guys have done but things take close to half the time to download in
Vista when compared to XP.
To be honest features like integrated search and glass are not too attractive for me, but the meat is there.
Running with LUA (Limited user access) helps me avoid those unwanted scripts running behind my back.
All in all i would give it 4/5, but a year down the line it would be the best thing around, reason is not in Vista but around the lack of power/RAM (and device drivers for Vista) in the current day hardwares.
