Everyone's really bummed about Donn Knotts and Darren McGavin dying this weekend, but so far, nobody has mentioned the tragic death of Dennis Weaver due to lung cancer. If you all remember, Dennis Weaver played the unstoppable no-nonsense cop on the awexxome 70's show McCloud.

I remember really getting into the show McCloud around 1996, when A&E was showing all of the classics during the early afternoon (I had an evening job then). It was delicately sandwiched between M.A.S.H. and Rockford Files. I would wake up and enjoy a smoke while Sam McCloud trapiazed around in his sheepskin jacket and signature cowboy hat, solving crimes, usually involving drugs, or hooker runaways.

I think those were the only crimes in the 70's - drugs and prostitution. And I guess murder. And diamond heists.

Often McCloud would get so mad at the police cheif, he'd throw down his badge and storm out. Chief Clifford would run after Sam yelling, "MCCCCCCLOUD!!". McCloud would then light a smoke and kick dust for a few minutes before going renegade and solving the crime on his own. Usually at the end he would end up getting his badge back, and more often than not, would go home with the hooker he just helped find.

Here's a picture of McCloud that you may weep over:
