i've heard that some people use cotton balls to spin cotton yarn. it takes dye really well too.
after spinning for as long as i did, my hand started to cramp quite a bit. i don't know if i have enough to make a sock, and if i did, i would be a really lumpy sock. especially since it would be my first sock ever.
i love socks, but for some reason have no desire to try knitting them. maybe it's because everytime i've put on hand-knit socks, they're lumpy and don't fit and just aren't comfy. i must get every dud every time
i used some hand-dyed merino wool from the yarn shop just up the road. it wasn't terribly expensive, but at $5, i didn't get much yarn out of it. i'd love to be able to get raw wool from a farm or something, and go through the whole process of washing, dyeing and carding. i just need to find a spot that's willing to give it to me for free.
i will definitely check out that site, thanks for the link! it's a cute little zine, and it gives you all the basic info you need, but i think i'm going to try to find a book full of photos for a little more technique. but spinning is fun! i might give it another go tonight if there's time...

i can't imagine how you must feel to have made so much yarn :) you should make a sock or something.
