oh my god you guys i am so close to getting a job i can taste it!!

i had this huge interview event thingie last week with bovis - i went up to chicago on thursday for interviews and all that good stuff. it was really a half a day each on thursday and friday... once we got all of the tough stuff out of the way, they took us (12 almost graduates from u of i, purdue, mich state and bradley) to dinner at this bowling place that was also kind of a swanky bar. :D it was a lot of fun but of course i was a little worried and on my guard the whole time.

for those of you that dont know/remember, i interned with bovis over two summers and a winter break. so anyway, they rented rooms for us at this hotel so on friday morning we all met and went on a jobsite tour and then had lunch etc.

i spent a lot of time talking to dan, who was kind of in charge of my project team this past summer. i had no clue he was on the recruiting team at all but whatever. so basically what he said was that i dont have to worry, i was top 1 or 2 and the only thing they werent sure about was if i was going to be going to germany or someplace else after i graduated...

so fucking phew! i am super excited.

also, i have decided that i am going to have to take the LEED exam before i graduate, along with the FE. taking the LEED exam is basically for green building - it stands for leadership in energy and environmental design. the way it works is the US Green Building Council gives each project (that could be a building project, renovation, just an interior fit out project etc) points where they build sustainably. most points come out of the mechanical (heating, air conditioning, venting) systems, but other points come out of green roofs and low-emission glass and stuff like that. depending on how many points you have, the project gets a certain certification. so if you have such and such points, the project is LEED silver certified, or gold or platinum etc. the project gets points if some of the people working on it are LEED Acredited Persons (LEED APs). SOOO the whole point would really be to make myself more marketable for companies that are interested in LEED, which is basically everyone nowadays. My dad is trying to take the exam but he said that the exam itself is mostly about the qualifying process itself, not about how to build sustainably. which he hates, but i think it leaves room for creativity - no one is telling you THIS IS HOW YOU HAVE TO DO IT, like the building codes people are used to, but i think giving you a basis to start thinking about how you can get points for the project.

in any case, i have the time (maybe) and am quite used to sitting down and studying so i figure now is a good time. i just wanted to take a class for it, but they dont really offer anything here. theres books and websites and stuff but still. oh well.

also, the FE is the fundamentals of engineering exam and you have to pass THAT and have so much experience and some other requirements in order to be a PE or professional engineer, which you have to be in order to sign off on drawings.

ok enough complicatedness for today, i promise. moral of the story: i almost have a job.
