This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. I didn't realize how much I liked it until this Christmas, though. I can't get enough of the lyrics and how true they ring for me and my life. What can we honestly give to the King of Kings who came and died for us? Nothing, really... just us. That's what the song conveys. I get a little stupid at the end when it says "Then He smiled at me..." That's such a beautiful picture. He accepts the gift of the drummer boy, despite the lack of luster it has compared to the Wisemen's, because it was the best he had to offer. Thank you, God, for accepting me the way I am and for deeming the best I bring to you, how little and unimportant it might be, worthy...
Come they told me,
A new born King to see,
Our finest gifts we bring,
To lay before the King,
So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.
Little Baby,
I am a poor boy too,
I have no gift to bring,
That's fit to give the King,
Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
On my drum?
Mary nodded,
The ox and lamb kept time,
I played my drum for Him,
I played my best for Him,
Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.
*It's a few pa rum pum pum pums short, but I focused on the words.
