[Tim is sitting in his room holding a football in his right hand. He's got it balanced on it's tip between three fingers and his thumb, spinning it a little. He looks somewhat sober for once]

[Clumsy throw or not, Tim snags the ball of of the air with a grace he rarely exhibits doing anything else]

Not bad. At least you've got the hand eye coordination and sense of aim.

[He ambles over to Ryohei and holds the football up so he can look at it while Tim is talking]

Alright, you're gonna hold it like this, sorta just cradled in your hand. You wanna put the tips of your fingers on this seam. [He's demonstrating as he's talking] Now you're gonna cock your arm all the way back like this and find your target. You wanna hit the bullseye of whatever it is with the point of the football. Then you just let it roll off your fingers.

[And he does. The football makes a nice tight spiral. He never had the arm for the distance in high school but it's a pretty enough throw for play stuff]

Make sure you follow all the way through with your whole body, arm stretched out at what you were aimin' to hit and throwin' foot forward.

[He stays in the stance he was in when the ball was thrown for just a minute before he breaks into a jog to retrieve the football he smack the wall with moments before.]

[Ryohei watches the demonstration intently, taking note of Tim's movements and stance. He's pretty sure he can replicate it without much trouble. He unconsciously imitates Tim's throw while the other retrieves the ball.]

Okay! I'm ready to try.

[Tim chuckles as he watches Ryohei mimic him. He's got the right idea, stance looks pretty good. Now to see if he can mimic that with a football in his hand. He jogs over to him, holds out the football and points to a chair a bit further away]

Aim for that.

[Ryohei takes the ball from him and throws it the way Time showed him. The ball glances off the side of the chair, but hey, it still hit it right? Ryohei pumps his fist a little.]

I did it!

[Tim is grinning at him. He hands him another football]

This time stand up tall, almost on your toes. You wanna make yourself as tall as you can 'cause you're gonna have a whole field fulla players to look over. And follow it through. Make sure you're aimin' the point of the ball exactly where you want it to go.

[Ryohei nods. He takes the ball and tries again. The altered stance doesn't throw him off much, and the ball more or less goes where he wants it to. He grins.]

Football's not so hard.

Wait 'til we teach ya tacklin' to make that decision

Is it harder than boxing?

Don't know. Never boxed much but I've been in plenty of fights. Tackling is sorta hitting someone as hard as you can with your whole body. Eventually you stop getting bruised all to hell but for a while you'll be black and blue.

[Tim grins at him in return and nods]

Alright, let's give it a try. You're gonna want to hit me right 'round the middle with your shoulder, head to the side. Never hit someone with your head. My best friend Street got paralyzed doing that.

[He takes a square stance, feet planted shoulder width apart, hands on his knees and an idiot's grin on his face]

[Ryohei nods and grins right back. He rushes Tim, doing as he was told and hitting him with his shoulder with a surprising amount of force for a guy who's only about 5'5".]

[Tim definitely feels it but he's been a tackling dummy for Coach Taylor for years, not to mention the tackling dummy for San Antonio State for a few weeks. He takes a couple of steps back and pats Ryohei on the back]

Not bad. Honestly though, I wanna see how you catch. I'm thinkin' maybe wide receiver.

[Ryohei straightens up and shrugs, smiling.]

What's that do?

You're the guy who catches the football and puts points on the board.

[He picks up a football and walks out several yards]

Alright, I'm gonna throw this like I showed you and you catch it.

[Ryohei's cool with that. It sounds like an extremely important job.]
