daycare question

I am totally stuck right now... I really dislike the way food is being handled in Dora's daycare. We give her home cooked food and snacks, but whenever there is a birthday party, she ends up eating horrible cupcakes and junk like that. Plus, she sees other kids eating Oreo!!!! cookies and, of course, wants it too. Sometimes i come to pick her up ( Read more... )

Don't try to be a food Nazi... it will backfire. I tell Anat it's OK to have some junk, but very little and occasionally. She understands the concept, even though she still eats candy, but she doesn't eat it as much as other kids. Believe me, if you make a big deal out of it, it will be even worse rather than teaching her that this is what we do in our family because of *insert your reasons here*.

Oh i totally agree and i don't make this big deal out of it. If other kids in class are eating those damn cupcakes, i will not take it away from her... she eats it too.

I just want to limit it as much as possible.

How did you explain to her that one candy is enough?

Nu, I dunno, you just tell her. :) I tell her it's not good for her teeth or something. My child is a tooth freak. She loves going to the dentist and making sure her teeth are healthy :). Another thing you may want to consider is providing your own desert, and it may occasionally involve candy :). For example, Anat loves desert and eats it often. But instead of Twizzlers you can make sure she eats some good ice cream or quality chocolate. I think what's important is to teach her that desert is there for her if she wants it, but she can only have a certain amount. Which means that if she eats crap in daycare - she doesn't get desert at home :).

Right.. that's why we've been providing her with our own desert. I have NO problem with her eating cakes, but the ones i make :)))

They have ice cream days... Instead of her getting ice cream from those ice cream trucks, i got it for her from farmer's market.. home made with only 3!!!! ingredients :)))

ALL my life i've been fighting with weight and i really want Dora to avoid it...

Eventually she'll start telling the difference between your cakes and the ones other people have. Anat pretty much never eats cakes at birthday parties, but loves the ones that her grandma makes. Dora is still young and easily persuaded, but she'll get there :).
