Take Russian Orthodoxy and Irish Catholicism.
What are the exact differences when compared?

There are lots of differences. Some small differences are that they use a different calendar (so holidays are different days), Catholicism has been updated and that hasn't happened with Orthodoxy... I don't even know, there are lots of things. I converted to Orthodoxy when I was young but before that I was Catholic. Aside from both being types of Christianity, there wasn't much else in common. There are lots of websites on the topic if you google difference between orthodoxy and catholicism.

that's not really true.. there are some orthodox churches that use the Gregorian calendar (the Finnish Orthodox Church is one)

She was asking about Russian Orthodox churches, not Finnish orthodox. I've never known them to use the Gregorian calendar...

in your reply you referred to it as 'orthodox', so I wasn't sure which church you were referring to. There are so many.

well.. for starters.. the Orthodox do not acknowledge the Pope as the head of the Church.
