Monday I am giving a proposal to work for an upgrade in my position and I'm freaking out over bean counting issues.

Basically, we are a very small organization that has no hope for significantly increasing our profits without a developer in the position I'm suggesting. But we're also a shoestring budget type of organization, so there's no surplus to really support the position -- it would have to come from internal cuts and everyone agreeing to take something of a hit until the position supports itself and increases revenue in a year or two.

The amount of work it would take is absolutely not something I (or any sane person) would do pro bono until it brings in profit. The salary I am suggesting for the first year or two of development is insanely and offensively small, but it's still this extra money that would have to come from somewhere.

How the hell can I present this appropriately and in a non-alarming way? Is there even a way, or do we sound totally doomed?
