What is your opinion on an author who is a member of a non-oppressed group writing a character (particularly a main or POV character) who is a member of an oppressed group? I.e. a white person writing a POC character, a male writing a female character, a straight person writing a gay character, a cis person writing a trans character.
Can it be done well? Or is it bound to end in disaster? If it can be done well, do you have some examples?
(Particularly curious to hear from those of you who are a member of an oppressed group, but everyone's input is welcome!)
