being PC in daily life

I tend to find people who go out of their way to be PC in daily life extremely tiresome and annoying as all hell. Being PC in general is just a crock of steaming shit in my opinion, but that's me ( Read more... )

Ganked from Wikipedia, cuz they say it better than I can:

Political correctness (adjectivally, politically correct; both forms commonly abbreviated to PC) is a term which denotes language, ideas, policies, and behavior seen as seeking to minimize social and institutional offense in occupational, gender, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, certain other religions, beliefs or ideologies, disability, and age-related contexts, and, as purported by the term, doing so to an excessive extent.

Oh dear.

I am aware what the term means in general. I am asking what YOU define as PC.

I define being PC as pretty much what I copy and pasted to you.

So if I am quite forceful that people not refer to transgendered people as 'he-she' or 'tranny', by your definition I am being PC?

Ummmm, kinda.

I mean, not referring to someone as a he-she or a tranny, especially if that person you're talking to in particular finds it offensive (there are tons of trans folks who don't find it offensive) is being PC, but I guess I was more or less referring to the types of people who like to sit there and pick apart the context of every word someone uses in a sentence.

This is why I asked you to define PC. Under your definition being polite and trying to not being a cunt to people is being PC and you said you dislike that. So, it would make sense to get to the root of what annoys you.

Sorry, I'm trying to clarify but words are escaping me just a little bit. I'm having a tough time finding a concrete example of what I would define as PC gone overboard, but I know they exist somewhere. I guess I just find people who split hairs over word usage and context really annoying.

Lol, and re-reading my response, even that sounds vague. I don't know. I'm trying to explain my point of view in a way that makes sense, but am failing so hard.

I find it annoying when people let their mouths run without thinking about what they say. Oh well!

Well, what one person would see as extreme, others wouldn't. That presents a little bit of an issue.

My advice is that you stop letting things like this bother you. You will only give yourself a heart attack.
