Is chivalry dead? Should it be?

Is Chivalry the same as sexism? I have my opinion, but what I really want to hear is yours. (I'm talking about when a man does things like holding a door open or a chair out or relinquishing a seat simply because someone is a woman.)

I am NOT talking about courtesy done for anyone INCLUDING a woman or general niceness that just happens to occur half the time to people who are women. I am talking about something done BECAUSE someone is a woman.

Specifically, I am on a Facebook thread with an able bodied woman who was riding a bus. She was standing, and five men around her were sitting, and she was terribly upset that none of those men offered a lady a seat.

I know this was asked a while ago, but my perception of it was that it was like over a year now--though I admit not following the comm very well now that I'm going into finals. So if this is too recently asked, apologies in advance.

what do you think?, women, etiquette, men
