I am an experienced nuclear power worker - Ask Me Anything

Mar 15, 2011 20:08

I realise the nuclear plant situation in Japan is a concern for a few people, and that there are confusing and conflicting media reports from largely uneducated journalists who can't wrap their heads around the subject.

Since I have significant first hand knowledge of nuclear power operation, design and safety case justification, do you have any questions you'd like a straight answer to? It can be on the subject directly, about what is happening in Japan, the subject of radiation exposure and possible consequences, or how this relates to other power stations perhaps closer to home that you might have concerns about.

I should clarify here before any questions are asked, that the situation with the nuclear power plants is not even remotely on the same scale as the devastation and heartbreak caused by the loss of life and livelihood for tens of thousands of people, and that's where our collective focus should be. That said, this is still a subject that has been demanding answers.
