Since I know there are a few Australians active here, and because we are a much-misunderstood nation, let's start the AMA "Ask a ____" series with the folks Down Under

I love it. We get to eat a ton of yummy salads and generally have an awesome BBQ. Usually Christmas isn't scorching so we still have hot foods too. This past Christmas we had stuffed pumpkin, Caprese salad, roasted vegetables, roast potatoes, garden salad with edible flowers, sushi, portugese tarts, berry tarts and pudding. Those who ate meat had BBQ prawns as seafood is a HUGE Christmas food.
Most people still have the tree and everything, it's just slightly warmer and probably more casual with picnics and outdoor parties being favourable.
Adding to what ellinht said, the other nice thing about Christmas is it signals the start of the summer holidays for kids, and generally people will take a couple of weeks off at this time of year just to relax and enjoy some hopefully pleasant weather.
Obviously now I've come to enjoy the lights and traditions of a European Christmas, but I also miss the relative simplicity of an Australian Christmas.
yes, this! It's such a lovely time of the year. People have holidays and it's when everyone wants to catch up and go to the beach and just have awesome lazy times.
Excellent! I am in the top of Aussie Land, we only have two seasons, and at Christmas its hot! The family usually has a huge Christmas Lunch with a BBQ out the back with steaks and prawns, while we cook all of the roasts and salads that go with it inside. Last year there was about 50 of us, friends, neighbors and relatives. Looked like something out of a movie with everyone turning up with chairs, alcohol and food. Kids run riot as the backyard is huge, and the street is safe. Yes we do the stereotypical backyard cricket / soccer, inflatable pools, and all the other fun things with Christmas like racing the kids toy cars down the road. I love it as the weather is 100% dependable to be sunny, even when it rains, it disappears in a couple of hours to be bright again.
Being from Melbourne, we definitely don't get the dependable weather... our Christmas's can range from about 18°C to 45°C haha. Rain, hail, maybe not snow, most likely drought and bushfires.
Typical Christmas in my family for a couple of years involved going to the beach with a platter of seafood, something nice to drink, and a summer berry pudding. Wonderful stuff.
I'd rather have a cold one. It's such a busy time, rushing around and relatives and shopping and such. And it just gets sweaty and gross. That said, it's nice having a swim on Christmas day.
