So I'm about finished reading Revolution in World Missions. It has turned out alot different than I expected. I really expected the author to push his readers toward going as missionaries themselves to the Third World, but he actually does the opposite. He urges Western Christians to give back from the way God has blessed them- with their wealth. God is doing a new work in missions. It is the era of native missionaries. Native missionaries can do the job far better in their own countries than Americans can, because the natives already know the language and live among the people. But they need support. Many go without food and basic necessities while they preach the Gospel. So the author urges Americans to give their prayer and financial support to these missionaries.
All that to say- the whole book has made me re-think my "call" to missions. Obviously God has given this passion for a reason. I always thought I was called to go, but if more qualified natives can do it more effectively for less than what it would cost to send me, maybe going isn't my role. I don't think that Western missionaries can be completely discredited because I believe God still uses them. But maybe God gave me a passion so I could be a prayer warrior for these missionaries and financially support them from home. I don't really know...its just been on my mind alot. For right now, I'm planning to go, but willing to stay if that's what God wants.
In other news....today I leave for camp!! I saw a bunch of my friends that were on staff last year at a party the other night and it was such a good reunion! I can't wait to spend the summer with my old friends and make new friends too. I'll try to update on the weekends!
