Bones

A very sad thing has happened. One of the old trombones was killed this weekend in a car accident. His name was Bill Hivner and he was one of those guys that seemed tough, but everyone knew had a big heart. I'm not really sure of the details, but it's a very sad thing. Also, my former section leader Keith Blair has been battling a disease (I ( Read more... )

Well, I'm glad that us girls....and yes, I count Jason in this ;)...can at least see each other on here. I don't even want to get started on memories of Bill, I have so many. Here's a few:

He taught me how to shoot a gun (rifle and hand gun) freshman year, and he made me a plaque to commemorate the experience
The war between 1130 and 1132 School St...the guys and girls trombone houses...practical jokes galore!
I'm pretty sure he's the one that held my hair back the night I broke the toilet....I know he got me a scrunchie from one of the girlfriends that stayed there....
He and I explaining to Khalil that 'Blazing Saddles' isn't supposed to be offensive, and that it's tradition for the bone line. (and, btw, K is one guy I haven't been able to hunt down as much as I've tried....let me know if you can find him)

He really was a teddy bear, and I'm one of the few that got to see it fairly regularly. I really hope that the two of you (Sarah and Ashley) can work out a way to come west this weekend! I'll even say that I know there are places in Pgh that you could stay for free...that's what I'm doing. I miss everyone so much!

It's so hard to describe to people what it was like in band. I miss it a lot. I haven't talked to K in a long time either. I heard he took a job, but that was a couple YEARS ago. Time flies I guess. Ahh towel rack. That was such a funny story. And God bless Bill and his scrunchie. May you always find a scrunchie... when you're puking and breaking towel racks. I just remember him yelling a lot and me laughing a lot because of it. Thanks for the comment Heidi. I probably won't be able to make it out there, but tell everyone hello, because I sure do miss you and all the bones!
