a friend told me recently, "for someone who says she likes travel, you sure don't travel a lot."
ouch. it hit home despite the fact that i just renewed my passport (machine-readable! yay?). didn't really have a trip in mind, but they've been sounding off at work that they might send me out of the country, and i really was intending to renew my passport anyway.
and then last weekend cebu pac had a seat sale. on a whim, i decided to buy a ticket and actually go *somewhere.* (my friend's words really struck a nerve :P) i was planning to go alone but another friend checked her sked, saw that she was free and asked me to get a ticket for her (she'll pay me back of course -- i need the shopping money!). so it looks like i'll be able to cross off another country from my list soon.
locally, i was lucky enough this year to strike off 2 places i've been wanting to go to: bohol and palawan. the first trip kinda went awry, but it turned out ok. i was able to see the tourist spots AND eat local. next time should really be about getting R&R in panglao. i hear the snorkelling's really good there. palawan was fun and free! thank you, office! that the resort manager was a friend also helped me score free alcohol. :)
but i want to travel via land too, and this is going to cost some. some people i know are planning a bike trip up north for one of the upcoming long weekends. it's not bike all the way, mind you! travel north by car/bus then by bike between provinces. they're looking at 100km/day x 2 days. gak! but with a bit more training, i know i can join them. but, and that's a pretty big BUT coming ... told me that my bike's holding me back and if i want to join them, i better upgrade and soon.
on one hand, it's flattering and refreshing that ... thinks i can do this. i also know that his advice is sound and if i want to survive that long weekend, i'll need more than a strong pair of legs. now if only my wallet could take the same kind of beating!
i do love to travel, and between plane-and-passport-required travelling and travelling on 4 and 2 wheels, i'm not sure which i'll choose. i won't fret over this though. it's a happy choice and the fact that i have to decide between these 2 is blessing enough already!
