In short, I loved Cloverfield at its scariest, and hated it at most of its other moments. I loved its framing device, but hated how they were executed and hated how unnecessary they made the main characters. I hated the characters, but again I think they were what they were only by virtue of the framing device. I think it peddled in 9/11 terror hypothalamus triggering, but I don’t blame it for going for a sure nerve.
