Sad goalie :(
There were a couple of turnovers in the Aeros' zone that led to goals last night, and kept the Admirals in the game, and then a stupid delay of game/holding the puck (I thought it was a hand pass in the defensive zone, and should've been a face-off in the zone, but whatever, I'm not the zebra) penalty with ONE MINUTE in regulation, and since the normal OT rules are 4 on 4, OT started 3 on 4, and yeah, the Aeros are just not that good when they've only got three men on the ice. So, OT loss. They're 2-2-1 now.
Still, their passing looked better in Friday night's game and the first and third periods of this game than they did in the home opener. And I am completely won over to the Scandella camp by his skate down the ice to high-five Hackett whenever someone on his shift scores. (They listen to house music together. Seriously. Thanks for sharing that, Hackett. BROS.) Scandella must've been gassed by the end of the night, though, because there were a couple of PKs where he skated the entire 2 minutes.
[ETA:
Scandella and Fontaine at a youth practice here in Houston. THE LITTLE GIRL FONTAINE WORKS WITH.]
Anyway, the only thing that is super-annoying about our seats is that the dude in the seats behind and over keeps heckling visiting players that if they were any good they'd be playing in the NHL right now. ...yeah. I got nothing. I mean, what do you say to that? "STFU, dumbass, no one is playing in the NHL right now" is all that comes to mind.
Tangent: has everyone seen the Admirals' back-up goalie,
Hellberg (ignore the deets of that wiki article - it's obvs not up to date)? He started last night. He is a blond GIANT, omg.
+ Oktoberfest happened. We had about 20 people there, and we killed the 5 gallons of home-brewed doppelbock (sp?) but only about half of the dortmunder was consumed. My favorite thing about hosting parties: I start drinking when everything's ready, and I don't have to worry about being a designated driver. But also, I tend to not eat because I'm trying to chat with everyone, and I end up with a really nice buzz.
- KPFT's still trying to raise money in their annual autumn drive. Yesterday was not much better than last week, in terms of number of callers. I'm not going to lie: I am really concerned about the station, given the way the Pacifica foundation pools resources and allocates them.
~ Happy hour at the Tasting Room tonight, to meet a few of the Alley Theatre's cast members. Because I love to drive through rush-hour traffic to the Galleria. Right. :/
~ I think my boss has forgotten that I'm taking off this Friday and half of Monday. We planned on going to Voodoo Experience starting way back in December, when advance tickets went on sale. I told him in June. Reminded him in July. Sent him a "put this on your calendar" email in August. Pretty sure he never did. And he's not going to like being reminded of it, because we have until 9Nov to respond to reviewers' comments on our last (ie: Student Who Fucked Off And Never Finished Things's) paper. Experiments are in progress, but the sad fact is, we got those reviews right before I left on vacation and right now there's no one else in the lab who knows how to do the techniques required, so no work was done on them while I was gone.
Jack White. Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Bootsy Collins. Plus the weekend in NOLA. This has been on the calendar forever. I've sort of reached the point where I do not care if my boss is upset. Why should I, if he's going to treat lab fuck-ups with such casual dismissal? I feel like there's no incentive for me to work as hard as I do. I know that's a bad attitude to have, but I'm lacking motivation to improve it.
