It turns out that Colbert is a ridiculously good chameleon. Somehow he's around more often than not - his excuse is that he's a freelance programmer, and he works non-traditional hours, mostly when he's got a contract - and somehow not intrusive.

Not even when he's right there, camped in Nate's guest room, leaning on Nate's counter waiting for coffee to brew, elbowing him for space in the bathroom in the morning as they brush their teeth, checking in with Nate more than anyone but a really attentive spouse would.

When the case is finished, Nate doesn't know how to go back to not having Brad - Colbert, he tells himself - in his living space, in his personal space, meeting him for a drink after work or bringing him Thai take-out when they're working late
