+ thesamefire, happy birthday! Give me a character or pairing and prompt, and I'll see what I can do for a birthday drabble.

+ Work is interfering with my ability to watch tennis again. Belated: vamos, Daveeed! Dear Chuck Culpepper, STFU and sit down, I WOULD RECOGNIZE HIM. OK, I am biased, but Daveeed is awesome. Because he's quiet and soft-spoken and ( Read more... )

How old is Dante? If Sandy were taller/bigger, I wouldn't think 12.5 lbs was fat, but she's a bowling ball. :(

The thing about moving is that DC prices are so ridiculous. My commute would be shorter, but probably more like 30 minutes, not 5. We'll see. I want to be in my current job for a while before I consider it seriously.

Adding another day = more tickets to sell, so more revenue in theory. But I think they'd be better off compressing the first three days and killing Super Saturday. I have a big problem with *planning* to have the men's SF and F back to back as it is. Add in NYC September weather, and the schedule is begging for a delay. And no one wins when the final is on Monday. No one. Not the fans, not the vendors, not advertisers or broadcasters.

The early matches are pretty full; the grounds were busy, although maybe not as busy as they are over the holiday weekend. The matches on Ashe weren't full because they were not competitive. People who go to watch tennis want to see good tennis, and that's not where it could be found for the first week at least.

For example, I had tickets to three day sessions and two night sessions on Ashe, which covered at least 13 matches, but I probably watched four full matches and parts of three others *at most*, because I was more interested in what was going on elsewhere. Unless there is a "big" match up because of a ranking dip or injury or you have a sentimental favorite, there's better, more competitive tennis to be seen elsewhere. Instead of watching Clijsters beat Duval, I watched Robson's tight first round against an NCAA qualifier and then most of F-Lo's match against Haase before going to watch the end of Fed beating Young. Instead of watching whoever was on Ashe on Wednesday, we watched Daveeed and Kvitova and JMDP on Armstrong. Better stuff.

Given the inevitable delays, I don't understand why the USTA insists on the SF/F schedule they have. When was the last time the men's final was actually held on schedule? The women's is already post-poned. The USTA: winning on all fronts.

We have had Dante since Dec 2004, and the vet at the shelter estimated that he was at least three years old then, so he is not a spring chicken. The vet said his heart and lungs and skin/coat look good, but hasn't called with anything about the blood tests yet. Sandy is ridiculous. You'd think that with her binge-purge habits she would be much skinnier.
