but I only had one beer, so. Yeah, no. It's all my brain.
Spied Maria Sharapova in the audience at the ESPYs, where she was nominated for the Best Comeback. Along with Sid Crosby.
Yeah, my brain totally went to the RPF possibilities.
Like, maybe while Crosby was on IR, he was bored. BORED. And he started doing Rosetta Stone to learn Russian - what, in the past he had Sergei Gonchar to translate when hockey-isms didn't work with Geno, but Sergei's not coming back from Ottawa - so when he literally runs into Maria before the awards start, he catches her before she tumbles to ground - how do women walk in shoes that tall and pointy? At least skate blades are level the length of the foot - and apologizes, then he congratulates her in awkward, heavily accented Russian. But she's charmed, because she's used to people who don't even bother to try. So she responds, and they chat (sort of) in a mix of broken Russian and English.
And the next day, Geno sees twitpics of this (and possibly the Russian knitting circle has a few choice comments to make, accompanied by smirks), and is all >:( why is he speaking Russian and flirting with her (and not me)? And then he sulks goes back to fishing and drinking vodka with his buddies, and refuses to think about any of the random texts updating him on Penguins' trade prospects, the draftees' skills at development camp, or the possibility that Semin might join them in Pittsburgh. (Yes, he knows that Sidney really communicates best in hockey terms and metaphors. But that doesn't mean he has to like it.)
OR. Less opportunity for pining and misunderstandings: in an alternate reality where Parise/Crosby is established but Sid's still not speaking to Zach over the whole signing-with-a-team-not-in-Pittsburgh, Zach sees the pics and hears the gossip, and even though he knows - knows - that Maria's with Sasha, and Sid's not the kind of jackass who'd go there even when they're fighting, it's still enough to make him leave the Wild development camp (it's never too early to establish a rapport with the rookies!) early, to fly to Halifax to see Sidney.
(I have no excuses. None.)
handbasket: occupied,
my brain,
idek,
so many facepalms
