What is going on at the Village Voice? Financial woes or politics?

It seems the financial woes are hitting a lot of our favourite media. Free Speech Radio News was nearly ready to go off air because of it. The were able to get some funds to last a few more months but I fear they're not long for the pull either. - Sad times for us.

I wondered about that when I kept getting emails and such for fundraising for FSRN. Even Pacifica and Democracy Now seem like they are working overtime for donations.

Fundraising week used to be twice a year, and it seems as though they're all having a rough time of it.

KPFT does three drives a year, of 10-14 days each, because they are not supported by any corporate sponsors at all.

Yeah, toward the end of the year I was getting an email every other day to remind me that I could still get a tax credit. Fundraising has got to be a thankless job.
