Bamboozle Roadshow, Houston House of Blues, 9April09:
Mercy Mercedes:
I knew nothing about this band. I'd buy their album. I should have there, where it was $5, but I was still worrying about my money (and lack thereof) since my debit card and credit card were missing, so.
I got a ton of really blurry pics, because I was trying not to use flash - the venue used to announce "no flash" before shows - but then I realized everyone else was using flash, so I figured fuck it.
The guitarist for Mercy Mercedes, who spent most of their set working it. While straddling someone's mic. IDEK.
Some NeverShoutNever:
They were entertaining, if only because their fans were crazily into them. I wouldn't go so far as to buy their album, though. It's cute, but not stuff I'd listen to over and over.
The Cab:
Re: the music: I've been to the HOB a bunch of times now, and their set had more feedback than any I've heard yet. I don't know if that was a venue issue or their own equipment. It wasn't a bad set. But I'd hoped they'd change it around, add something new besides Disturbia, since they've kept basically the same 8 songs on their set list for the last year.
We were at the barrier in front of Marshall, so I got a lot of pics of him.
Half the times I tried to get a shot of Ian, Singer would bend over right as I snapped the pic. I saw far more Singer ass and underwear than I ever really wanted
Cash was not very mobile. He was pretty subdued, actually.
Ian:
More Singer, who holds still when he sees a camera focused on him:
I also got a bunch of pics of Marshall +/- his guitar and Cash:
(I got zero photos of Johnson, b/c Marshall's keyboard blocked his kit from my angle.)
We The Kings:
Hi, smoky Drew!
Hey there, Travis! I see you through the smoke, too!
He was standing a bit back, so I focused on him, and he stepped forward as I snapped the photo. So yeah, I have an entire collection now of band-boy body parts that I really did not mean to get photos of.
More Drew, more Travis:
I might've flailed a little bit over the live version of Don't Speak, Liar.
I didn't get a lot of good pics of Danny - every time I focused, someone walked into the shot.
Hi, bonus Cash-rap!
And we opted out of the pit (and the venue) before FTSK came on, so.
PWTs:
At first, I was like, "What? Does that say what I think it says?"
Incomplete set list - cut off the top. The only song from Stop was Lonely September. And they only did a couple of songs from All That We Needed. Mostly their set was from the third and four albums.
There's a whole lot of Tim and De'Mar and Tom and Dave, and not much Mike in my photos, b/c I was right between Tim and Tom. In fact, most of time when Tom leaned over to deal with crowd, the height of the stage and the barrier put him right in my face. Seriously. RIGHT IN MY FACE. DNW your guitar or your crotch there, kthnx.
But it was worth it for the Tim Lopez face time.
Hi, Mike! Hi, accordion!
Attack of the silly string! :) He seemed amused. [Except that it got all over his guitar and his pedals.]
