Last night, I met with an admissions representative at Davenport University. It was my sister's meeting, but she took me with and the admissions rep was nice enough to include me as though it were my meeting, too.
I mentioned that I'm looking into health information technology, billing/coding, etc. type schooling. He could have just pointed out the great programs they have available and left it at that. Instead, he went above and beyond his duties and told me about a medical billing/coding program being offered FOR FREE for under and unemployed people such as myself. He was under the impression that the class was full for the next year, but suggested that I go to an informational meeting on Monday to get myself on a waiting list in case anyone cancels before the class starts in the fall.
Today, he called me back to tell me that the class is NOT full for this fall. I'm going on Monday to get set up to take a FREE class. It's paid for through grants and generous peoples in the city. So, I'll find out more. Hopefully this will get me where I want to be. If it doesn't, I was impressed by what I saw and was told at Davenport and I will check more into their health information technology program.
