What should I do?

Yes folks, I stayed up to catch the Oscar nominees announcement on E!. Very few surprises this year I must say. I predicted Terence Howard to get in for Hustle & Flow and I'm stoked he did - the guy is amazing in this film. I'd like It's Hard Out There For A Pimp to win for original song (Eminem did it with a rap song, so it's not a far cry) but seeing as they cut the category down to just three nominees there isn't much to choose from, so I see Dolly Parton winning it as she's got the 'established musician' factor going for her. I would've liked Ziyi Zhang to get in for Memoirs of a Geisha but I didn't think her performance was on par with the other actresses this year. Yay for Keira Knightly though.

Go Geroge Clooney! The guy's a legend - three nominations for directing, supporting actor and writing. I suspect he'll go home empty-handed on the night as the competition in each of those categories is fierce. He probably stands a chance in the writing category where he's up against Crash.

I think Brokeback Mountain still has the legs to take it all the way (Ang Lee for the win!!!) but Crash does pose a threat and is a little more 'Academy friendly' (ie. no sodomy). Even though it was a shoo-in for the major categories, people still cheered whenever it was mentioned during the nominees announcement. It's the people's favourite, and that can't be underestimated. We'll have to see over the next month how each film does on the campaign trail.

Predictions closer to the day.
