Wow I can see why you are so confused! It's too bad your profs weren't more specific. However, I'd definitely focus on the ideas behind modern examples of information exchange, as applied to Japan and Korea. When I think about this, the first thing that springs to my mind is the Korean wave. This would be an excellent topic to explore, and you could focus on just the television aspect and have plenty of material for 10 pages. I understand that you don't want to focus on celebrities too much for fear of stepping on the toes of another group member, but being able to link your papers together could be a really *good* thing and I can't imagine talking about the Korean wave (known in Japan as "hanryu," (韓流) btw) without mentioning the impact that Bae Yong Joon has had in Japan. One of their own celebrities, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, has had fantastic success by learning Korean and exploiting his link to both countries.
