SWEET!
It's time for my favorite Right Stuf sale of the year:
35% OFF the MSRP of all K-drama DVDs and Box Sets from YA Entertainment! (If you're a member of the
frequent buyer program, you get all the way up to 41% OFF.)
And since Right Stuf already has the lowest listed MSRPs on almost all of YA's K-dramas, it makes the discounted prices even better. Just to be certain I'm bringing you guys the best deals, though, I surfed around to both Amazon and YesAsia's listings to make sure my picks (listed below) are all at lower price points, as are many other YA titles included in the sale.
To take advantage of the discount, remember to use the coupon code brilliant during checkout. And act fast - this is one of Right Stuf's short sales, so it ends this Thursday, March 25 at 11:59 p.m. CDT.
My top picks - w/both discounted prices [the one within the "( )" is the frequent buyers club price]:
Brilliant Legacy (a.k.a. Shining Inheritance) - $64.99 ($58.99) (Lee Seung Ki, Han Hyo Joo, Bae Soo Bin, Moon Chae Won)
I just wrote up a
spotlight for this a couple days ago! Though I missed out on the sale, getting the box early was totally worth it, and I love the set overall. If you liked the show and want a physical copy of it, this one's been wonderfully put together. It's a sweet
Cinderella-esque story that will have you rooting for the heroine's success from start to finish, plus both Lee Seung Ki and Bae Soo Bin make excellent romantic rivals! The box set comes with a 145 minute special behind-the-scenes featurette as well as two smiley (and frowney) face pins like the ones featured in the series.
Boys Over Flowers, Vol. 1 - $58.49 ($53.09) (Koo Hye Sun, Lee Min Ho, Kim Hyun Joong, Kim Bum, Kim Joon)
Boys Over Flowers, Vol. 2 - $45.49 ($41.29)Yet another set I featured in my
very first spotlight.
Korea's take on Yoko Kamio's famous manga series is cracktastically fun, and once you start watching, it's hard to stop. Additionally, its F4 is fairly bursting with eye candy. This was the first series where I actually noticed Kim Bum (The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry), and it's the first series I think I've seen with Lee Min Ho (upcoming Personal Taste) period. As far as packaging goes, these two sets are top notch. There's a bonus photobook that comes with the first set, and the second set is chock full of special behind the scenes featurettes and interviews.
My Girl - $45.49 ($41.29) (Lee Da Hae, Lee Dong Wook, Lee Jun Ki, Park Si Yeon)
If I had to describe
My Girl with just one word, it would be "fun." Like the best of it's ilk, My Girl is at times both laugh-out-loud funny and "grab the tissues" heartwrenching, and you can't help but fall in love with the three main characters as they try and sort out their lives. There are tons of zany antics to be followed as the heroine is a master at getting into (and out of) serious scrapes and mishaps, and is played perfectly by Lee Da Hae (currently starring in Chuno). Lee Dong Wook (Partner) portrays the romantic lead - a wealthy and somewhat stuffy (and dutiful) young man. More than any other character, though, I loved the secondary male lead, which was played by Lee Jun Ki (The King and the Clown, Time Between Dog and Wolf). He's wonderfully charming, and despite being kind of a toolbox at times, he's a fully fleshed-out character.
A Prince's First Love - $38.99 ($35.39) (Cha Tae Hyun, Sung Yu Ri, Kim Nam Jin)
I am a huge Cha Tae Hyun (My Sassy Girl, I Came In Search of a Flower, Into the Sunlight) fangirl, but I'd recommend this series to anyone who loves romantic comedies in general. It's loads of fun, with gorgeous settings and a plot that flows along quickly.
Palace (a.k.a. Goong/Princess Hours - $51.99 ($47.19) (Yoon Eun Hye, Joo Ji Hoon, Kim Jeong Hoon, Song Ji Hyo)
Yoon Eun Hye is always lovable and, as usual, performs admirably, and I adore the manhwa on which
Palace is based, so it was a foregone conclusion that I would, at some point, end up picking up the DVD box set. Actually, even if I didn't like the lead actress and wasn't familiar with the manhwa, I probably would have picked it up for the Joo Ji Hoon factor as he's incredibly hot appealing. Scandal or no - he's excellent as Eun Hye's love interest. The set also includes a ton of fabulous special features, including a crazy long and informative talk show special with all the main cast members. I love seeing actors interact outside of their roles, so this was a big plus for me.
Jumong (a.k.a. Book of Three Han) Box Set 1 - $51.99 ($47.19) (Song Il Gook, Han Hye Jin, Kim Seun Soo, Song Ji Hyo)
Jumong (a.k.a. Book of Three Han) Box Set 2 - $51.99 ($47.19)Jumong (a.k.a. Book of Three Han) Box Set 3 - $51.99 ($47.19)Jumong (a.k.a. Book of Three Han) Box Set 4 - $51.99 ($47.19)This is yet another incredibly well-done period piece, featuring an intense performance by Song Il Gook (A Man Called God, Kingdom of the Winds, Red Eye). Though it does run pretty long (81 episodes!), the production values are high throughout, and the story is full of adventure and beauty.
Other great picks - w/both discounted prices [the one within the "( )" is the frequent buyers club price]:
The King & I Box Set 1 - $58.49 ($53.09) (Koo Hye Sun, Oh Man Suk, Ko Joo Won)
The King & I Box Set 2 - $58.49 ($53.09)The King & I Box Set 3 - $58.49 ($53.09)This one's for both period piece fans and those who fell in love with Koo Hye Sun in Boys Over Flowers.
My Little Bride - $16.24 ($14.74)It took me a while to finally get around to watching
this movie, but it ended up being incredibly sweet and has turned me into a total Kim Rae Won (My Love Patzzi, The Grand Chef, Say You Love Me) fan. The film also stars Moon Geun Young (Innocent Steps, Garden of the Wind, upcoming Cinderella Sister).
Tamra Island (a.k.a. Tempted Again) - $64.99 ($58.99) (Seo Woo, Im Ju Hwan, Lee Sun Ho, Lee Seung Min)
Time Between Dog and Wolf - $58.49 ($53.09) (Lee Jun Ki, Nam Sang Mi, Jung Kyung Ho)
The Snow Queen - $51.99 ($47.19) (Hyun Bin, Syung Yu Ri, Im Ju Hwan)
Two Outs Bottom of the 9th Inning (a.k.a. 9 End 2 Outs) - $51.99 ($47.19) (Lee Jung Jin, Park Soo Ae, Lee Tae Sung)
