Happy birthday to Hidehiko Hoshino, guitarist of the Japanese rock band BUCK-TICK, who turns 43 today!!
Overview: BUCK-TICK is a band formed in 1983 by Hisashi Imai and Araki. The original lineup contained Araki on vocals, Imai and Hidehiko Hoshino on guitar, Yutaka Higuchi on bass, and Atsushi Sakurai on drums. However, in 1985, in mutual agreement that he did not suit the band, Araki departed, and Sakurai switched to vocals while Higuchi’s older brother Toll Yagami joined as the drummer. The band scored a major label under Victor/Invitation in 1987. Since then the band has released 28 singles, 2 mini-albums, 16 albums, and 7 compilation albums, and has switched labels twice. Latest News/Releases: BUCK-TICK’s latest single release was GALAXY in January. They have also released their sixteenth album Memento Mori in February. They are currently on their 2009 tour to promote the album. There is no word of upcoming releases.
My Opinion: BUCK-TICK is one of those better Jrock bands. Their music is innovative and unique, not like everything else you hear. It’s also distinctive, so if you hear it you know it’s BUCK-TICK. I rather enjoy their music most of the time, but I find I can only listen to it in moderation because it often isn’t very variable, at least not their older music. They have been better with their more recent music. In any case, I definitely like Atsushi Sakurai’s deep and haunting voice. It adds a lovely touch to their music. =]

HEAVEN: I’m not sure why but BUCK-TICK’s music has been much more uptempo lately. In fact, this song is actually a love song. Inorite. Crazy! But the lyrics are actually really lovely. I’m not too partial to the way Sakurai sings in this song, but the overall song is really wonderful so I won’t complain too much about it. The PV is not particularly exciting; it’s actually rather typical for a BUCK-TICK PV….lol. But it’s okay. Lol.
