Tero, of Vidoll

Happy birthday to Tero, the drummer of the Japanese rock band Vidoll, who turns some unknown age today! =D

Vidoll is a Jrock band that formed in early 2002, when bassist Rame recruited Tero, a drummer, Jui, a vocalist, and Yukine and Ayano, guitarists, to make up his new band. They later scored a record label under Matina, and performed for the first time live in May, at the Yokohama Arena Soundhall with other bands.

Just two months later, the young band released two complementary singles, Face Mayura and Face Pisaroto, for their official debut. During the rest of the year, the band contributed songs to several Matina compilation albums. They released their third single in December: Occult Proposal.

The Matina label shut down in early 2003, but its founder Kisaki formed a smaller label called Under Code Production, and Vidoll was invited to transfer. Under the new label, they released two single simultaneously on March 14, entitled If... Levotomin (Y LV25 25) 475mg and If... Torikabuto (Shikibetsu Code Nashi) 120mg. They released another single on May 26, and three days later their first mini-album, If...Yakubutsu Ranyou Bokumetsu Campaign was released.

In May, they released their first DVD, which contained three of their music videos and a live performance. Following these releases, they embarked on their first tour of Japan, which included their first solo live performance at Meguro Rock May Kan in June. They then released in July another single.

Unfortunately, in August, guitarist Ayano decided to leave the band and pursue other musical interests. He was replaced by Hide, who joined the band in September, in time to participate in the band’s next two singles, which were released in the middle of December. A live recording of the band’s first one man show (when Ayano was still present) was released in October.

The band released their tenth single Wagahai wa, Korosukenari… in March 2004. It was limited 10,000 copies, and sold out fairly quickly, so a second press was released in September. The band was fortunate enough in April to achieve a French record label, Mabell, and released a compilation album entitled Bijinkei in Europe.

Back in Japan, they released another single and a live DVD in June, in addition tot heir first album, Mukashi futokoro KASHI Ningyou shuu + omake, which consisted of tracks from two previous mini-albums and bonus material. It was limited to 10,000 copies, and completely sold out. They then embarked on their first one-man tour, which ended in September. Shortly afterwards their mini-album Romanesque Gothic was released, along with the second press of Wagahai wa, Korosukenari….

As 2004 progressed, the band held more live concerts. They ended the year with two mini-albums that featured several rerecorded songs from releases that had already sold out, and a DVD that contained two of their music videos.

2005 started off well for the band; their official fan club, Ningyou Kan, was launched on January 1, and in March the band held a fan-club-only tour consisting of eight stops. In April they sold a special single and DVD at their two concerts in Tokyo and Osaka, called Remind Story. However, shortly afterwards, it was announced that guitarists Yukine and Hide would be leaving the band, for personal and health reasons, respectively.

In early June they released an album containing the combined tracks of two of their previous mini-albums, which were printed in limited copies and quickly sold out. After a last fan-club-only concert at the end of June, Hide and Yukine left the band, and they were replaced almost a year later by Shun and Giru.

In June 2006, the band “graduated” from Under Code Productions, along with three other bands per Kisaki’s (the Under Code executive manager) request, to Sword Records. Their first release under the new label was their single Nectar in August, and then the album V.I.D ~Very Important Doll~ in November.

Still going strong, the band had their first US performance in the spring of 2007, when they performed at Jrock Revolution in Los Angeles, which was hosted by Yoshiki of the former band X Japan, and which featured several other visual kei bands who had their US debut there.

Most recently, in March 2008, the band appeared at Megacon in Orlando, Florida, for autograph signing, a Q&A session, and photographs. The band’s 26th single will be released on July 2, a few days short of a year after their 25th single.

So Vidoll is another Jrock band. Lol. I think we’ve established that because I’m no longer a big rock fan that my analyses of rock songs and bands suck. So. I’ll just get to the music.

Blue Star
I kind of like the peppy feel of this song. It’s kind of fun. I can’t say that it’s an amazing song or that it’s really original because it sounds kind of like your generic Jrock oshare/pop rock song, but I still kind of like the fun feel and the cheerful melody. =3
