Shim Eun Jin, formerly of Baby V.O.X., now a solo artist

Feb 06, 2008 23:52

Happy birthday to Shim Eunjin of the former Kpop froup, Baby V.O.X., who turns 27!!!

Baby V.O.X. originally formed with Cha Hyumi, Jang Hyun Jung, Jung Shi Woon, Kim EZ and Lee Hee Jin. They formed at the same time as another very popular Idol group, S.E.S, who turned out to be their rival, and released a single and an album to comparatively low success. It was at this time that Cha Hyumi, Jang Hyun Jung, and Jung Shi Woon were replaced by Lee Gai, Shim Eun Jin, and Kan Mi Youn, who were trained for a year before being inserted into the group. They released their second album to much greater success, hitting #7 on the charts.

However, it was discovered that Lee Gai had lied to their recording company, DR Music, about her age, and was in fact much older than the other girls. Because of this, and the fact that she did not seem to fit into the group, she was taken out and replaced by the much younger Yoon Eun Hye. The subsequent album became a chart-topper that allowed their popularity to grow.

In 2002 they released an album with the song "Oo Yun" (By Chance), which became extremely popular, and even gained them international fame in China and Thailand. In the spring of 2003 they released a sixth album, something very few Korean artists have been able to do.

In April of 2004 they released their seventh and final album, which featured songs in Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese, and featured American artists Jennifer Lopez and Tupac Shakur. However, because of controversy over copyright laws and the sexy and skimpy image of the music videos, the album did not achieve much success, and eventually led to the decline of the group. The group's contract was scheduled to end in 2004, and members began to leave in early 2005. Shim Eun Jin left to pursue a solo career, and then shortly afterwards Yoon Eun Hye departed to pursue an acting career (which has been successful with her role in the drama Goong).

The group continued as a trio for a short while, and then Kim EZ, too, left in early 2006 to pursue acting; not much later Kan Mi Youn signed on for a solo career with another label, and Lee Hee Jin departed for her own solo career in acting.

In December 2006 DR Music announced the return of Baby V.O.X. with new members under the name of Baby V.O.X. Re.V ("reev"). They made their debut in 2007 with the single "Shee." The current members are: Ahn Jin Kyung, Yang Eun Ji, Han Ae Ri, Hwan Yun Kyung, Myung Sa Rang.

*copies and pastes the post from 3 days ago* Personally, I have mixed feelings about Baby VOX. Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. Sometimes their voices are great, sometimes, not so much. It all depends on the song, I guess. I really like only a couple of their songs. But others I don't like. So...it's kinda off and on. Their voices are pretty good, I think, most of the time anyway, though sometimes they seem weak and like they can't hold or a hit particular note. Like I said, it all depends on the song.

Oo Yun
I always upload this song at some point...It's just so awesome. I love the catchy beat and the mysterious melody and just the overall awesomeness! Their voices may not always be the best but I don't think any other group could have done this song better. Gah~

Barem (Wish/Expectation)
This is a ctahcy song with lots of dance to it. it's kind of a late 80s early 90s song, or ast least it feels that way. Teh video especially gives off that kind of vibe. I kind of like it. I wouldn't say it's on of my favorties but it's a nice song with some catchy tunes and some decent vocals. :3

Despite being the leader of the popular group Baby V.O.X., Shim Eun Jin was the first one to leave the group in 2004, claiming she did not agree with the direction the group was taking. After a year of absence she released a solo album, Oopsy, at the end of 2005. The album was not heavily promoted and thus had fairly low sales, although she did appear on several variety TV shows. The album marked a change in Eunjin, who now calls herself “Zeeny.”

In 2006 she refrained from television appearances, and has been known to be working on her second album. According to shim-eunjin.net (an English fan site), Eun Jin has stated that her new album will be released in the beginning of 2008. In November of 2006, she released her own clothing line, entitled Z’BAGO.

2006 also started off her acting career; she has participated in the Korean television drama Dae Jo Young, as a well as a miniature B-boy drama on SBS. Dae Jo Young has only recently concluded filming and will air this year on KBS.

I'm not very familiar with Eunjin as a solo artist, but her voice is pretty good and she's got a decent range. She lacks a bit of power, but she songs that will accomadate her voice, so it's all good.

Oopsy
This is a hip-hop song with a lot of dance. It's not amazing, but it's pretty cool. Eunjin fills it with her vocals and I like the idea of the song, with the whole "Oopsy" thing. xD; It's ctachy, but I think it might take a bit to make me love it. The lyrics are really expressive, really poetic. But I think that might just be the translation. xD;

Better Dayz (live perf. video)
a mellow, slow-tempo blues-type song. It's very soft and quiet, but it's very pleasant. Eunjin's vocals are much better because this song is much more laid-back and gives her more alleyways to control her voice. I actually think I might like this song a lot, after a few listens. It's very mellow, like something you listen to on a rainy day. :3
