Happy 2st birthday to Xiah Junsu, a member of the [super AMAZING] Korean boy band Dong Bang Shin Ki/TVXQ!!

(Actually...his real birthday is December 16, but he was registered on the 1st. :3)

The members of Dong Bang Shin Ki came together many years before their debut in 2004. All of them were selected and trained by SM Entertainment at young ages. Xiah Junsu participated in a televised talent search program featuring Moon Hee Jun and Kangta as judges and passed. U-Know Yunho was selected to join SM Entertainment througha dancing competition and experience as a backup rapper and dancer for the singer DANA (who is now a member of Cheon Sang JI Hee the GRACE). Hero Jaejoong auditioned for SM Entertainment and placed first in both looks and voice out of 5000 people. Max Chanming also auditioned for SM Entertainment and passes. Micky Yoochun auditioned for Brothers Entertainment in America and passes, and thus he returned to Korea when he was offered a place in SM Entertainment.

The five members came together to form Dong Bang Shin Ki in 2003, and made their first appearance on December 23, 2003, on stage with BoA and Britney Spears. They sang their debut single, Hug, which was released the next month, and a duet with BoA on the Christmas classic “O Holy Night.” Their first two singles were very successful on the charts, hitting the #1 spots. Shortly afterwards their fan club was formed, named Cassiopeia for the 5 stars in the constellation, and the pattern of the letters TVfXQ (their Chinese initials) on the keyboard.

The initial success of their singles led to the release of their first album, Tri-Angle, which was released in October 2004, featuring their previously released singles and many new songs. It became a major hit. Their next album was more of a mini-album, a Christmas CD released in December called A Christmas Gift from Dong Bang Shin Ki.

The beginning of 2005 marked their venture into the international market. The released and English version of their single Hug and released their Tri-Angle album in China and Japan, with moderate success (although in Japan they were widely unrecognized). In April they released their first Japanese single, Stay With Me Tonight. They followed this with a few more singles, before returning to Korea.

They released their second album in September 2005, followed by a joint single with fellow label mates Super Junior called Show Me Your Love. The music video for the song “Rising Sun” won the Best Music Video award and the People’s Choice Award at the 2005 MNET KM Music Video Festival.

In order to promote their second album TVXQ embarked on an Asia Tour, appearing in Malaysia, Thailand, China, and Japan. They became the first Korean musical stars to perform in Malaysia. Shortly afterwards, they commenced their first Japan tour to promote their first Japanese albums, Heart, Mind, and Soul. They began to learn Japanese, performed at a-nation (Avex Trax’s annual summer concert), and released five singles. Despite all of this, their fifth and sixth Japanese singles of the year. Sky and “O”-Sei.Han.Go., were the only singles to achieve success, peaking at #6 and #3 on the Oricon charts, respectively.

More international success came when they became the first Asian group to win two Thailand Music awards, Best Video (“Rising Sun”) and Best Asian Artists, as well as the Popular Vote Asia Artist award at the Virgin Hits Awards 2006.

The group returned to Korean in August to prepare for the release of their third album in September, “O”-Jung.Ban.Hap. The album was also re-released to emphasize the second title track “Balloons.” It was extremely successful, selling more than 100,000 copies in the first month, and more than 330,000 total, the highest ranking album for 2006 in Korea. This success allowed them to earn many awards at the year-end awards shows. At 2006 MKMF Music Festival, TVXQ won four awards including “Best Group” and “Artist of the Year”. At the 16th Music Seoul Festival, they won three awards including Daesang, equivalent to Artist of the Year, followed by another Daesang at the 21st Golden Disk Awards 2006, in addition to a Bonsang. These events caused critics to call into question the legitimacy of awards shows, and many popular Korean artists, such as Rain and Lee Hyo Lee boycotted such events, refusing to show up.

In the beginning of 2007 the group returned to Japan to promote their Japanese works and increase their popularity. They released their second album, Five in the Black, in March, followed by almost monthly singles. Many of these singles made their debut within the top 3 on the Oricon charts. They also participated in a collaboration with popular singer Koda Kumi on a single Last Angel, which also made its debut at #3. During the year 2007, their Japanese fan-club population jumped from just 5,000 members to 19,000.

Along with the success of these singles they participated in Japanese music talk shows such as HEY!HEY!HEY!, Music Station, and Uataban. In early April they hosted their own radio station, called “TVXQ bigeastation,” and won the “Best Buzz Asia in Korea” award from the MTV Video Music Awards Japan in May. During this time in Korea, they released various songs in the form of digital singles.

Because of the groups rising fame in Japan, Avex Trax, their Japanese record label, has decided to invest more in them. They will release their 16th single Purple Line in January, followed the next week by their third Japanese album, T. They plan to release several new singles in the following months, featuring solo songs from each of the members as well as group performances.

I Love Dong Bang Shin Ki. LOVE LOVE LOVE~ They have amazing voices and they're all extremely talented dancers. And they look like a great bunch of guys. And they're all so HOT! xD; All of their music is amazing, except for some of their more recent Japanese singles. They're geared more toward the Japanese tastes of boybands, which, I personally think, is less sophisticated than the Korean tastes. But what teh hel do I know?! They're doing pretty good in Japan anyway.

Together
I don't like this song much...In fact, I don't think I like this song at all. xD; It's got too much music going on in the background, like they used too many instruments, and the music video is composed of ugly drawings, not their pretty faces. xD Well the song is not that bad, but I don't like it that much. Buit hey, it did hit the #2 (or 3, can't remember) spot on the charts on it's debut day, so oh well.  xD (The PV is shorter than the actual song, btw.)
