Summer camp time! This year I have decided to pack simple sandwiches (with home-baked bread) and fruits, and I have been drawing characters on her brown bag. I have to save my energy for Saturday Japanese School bento (more details later). Most of the time I just pick character myself such as Snoopy, Hello Kitty, etc. The other day I asked my kiddo's request, and she asked for "Captain Jack Sparrow!" I have totally forgotten that recently my hubby took the kiddo to go see the newest Pirates of the Caribbean movie... The kiddo was like "Can you put the skull logo on the back?" "Can you color it?" Do you know just how flimsy the brown paperbag is? (>_>) The most ridiculous looking sandwich bag ever...
And more bento photos below.
My kiddo started going to Japanese School on every Saturday. I wasn't sure if her language skill was good enough to go, since this is not a language school and you are expected to know Japanese to be able to follow the class material. Since I don't have many local Japanese friends and I am the only one speaks the language in the household, my kiddo's language skill is definitely behind of Japanese kids of the same age. The principal said she was on the borderline for accept/reject groups. I told him we will work really hard at keeping up and beyond. So here we are. Kiddo is loving it so much, I am so glad we made that decision (^_^)
At Japanese school they make a BIG emphasis on bento, and expect certain standard and quality in kids lunch. But no worries! I have practiced enough so I have nooo problem crusing through my bento-sailing (^_^) The school is about 40mins from our house (burrowing local university building) and since I don't want to waste my time on driving back and forth, I take my laptop and my own bento and spend a day there. So some of the bento photos above actually show my own bento as well (^_^) I certainly don't decorate my own bento, but eating same thing helps me to think up the better way to flavor them and such.
My once skin & bones pathetic tortie is very well and healthy now! She is still very petite but has gained good amount of weight. The black one is super friendly so they get along pretty well together. It helps that they are both females and neither is territorial (^_^)
