Eight reasons why bus travel in Greece is better than in India

1. Your knees don't get jammed against the seat in front of you.

2. There's no dust.

3. The music is generally better. And you don't get these warbling tapes screeching at 100 decibels out of scratchy speakers with all treble and no bass.

4. People don't bring live animals on the bus.

5. There are no suitcases piled the length of the aisle, and no giant tins of milk or sacks of grain blocking the rear door.

6. You can go 300 km, or half-way across the country, in about three hours. So they don't even have to stop at those roadside fast food establishments and tell you, "Brekfast kar lo," because you've already arrived before you can get hungry.

7. But just in case you think you might get hungry during the trip, you can buy real food at the station before you leave. I mean, a baguette roll with ham, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. It's a much better snack than greasy pakora or Kurkure.

8. They sell real espresso at the bus station, so you can stay properly caffeinated without having to use the bathroom in half an hour.

Four reasons why bus travel in Greece is not as good as in India

1. The drivers are often talking on their mobile phones, which is a little scary.

2. You can't take pictures out the windows because they're glass and sealed shut.

3. There's no picture of Aishwarya Rai's eyes on the windshield above the driver. (But there might be a crucifix and little icons of Jesus and Mary.)

4. The bus won't go to every teeny little village. So if you had some reason for wanting to go there, you might have to rent a car or walk.
