Okay, I know, I know. It's been nearly a full week since I've updated. My sincerest apologies. But it's been the CRAZIEST WEEK EVER.
For instance, right now I am writing to you from Boulder, Colorado. In order to explain this, I could invent some story involving murder, mystery, insomnia, and bad coffee, but I think it's best to tell the truth in this particular instance: I am here with my mother, touring colleges (at the moment, UC Boulder), and I AM LOVING IT.
So on Friday Corey took me home from school, taking me on a romantic and highly memorable date at McDonald's on the way. :D Then the Clan Yankes plus Corey started playing board games and watching movies, and ultimately he ended up staying overnight (on my couch of course, you gutterminds). We had a silly Saturday going to the Midfield Cafe with ze Papap Spuk and FAM, and other fun things ensued, and eventually Corey drove Mumika and I to the airport for OUR BIG TRIP.
We flew from Manchester to Dallas to Denver. Denver has got to be my favourite airport in the world. It's a friggin circus tent. Seriously, if you haven't seen it, look it up. It makes me SO happy. :) We spent the night at a La Quinta inn and loved it so much that we reserved our exact same room for the one night we hadn't quite scheduled yet (tomorrow, Monday night). It was lovely. I highly recommend La Quinta. :) The breakfast was nothing spectacular, but the room was FANTASTIC.
In the morning we got a rental car and drove to BOULDER!!!!! Oh it's been fantastic. We went to campus, explored the departments we want to see tomorrow after our tour, and generally got information in our sneaky Yankes Femme way. Then we went and checked out the chopping scene on Pearl St, which was full of TIBETAN SHOPS OMGOMGOMG and ice cream places and clothes stores and ohhhhhh it was awesome. I even got a new mandala to replace the one that broke a few weeks ago! <3 After that, we drove up the nearby mountain to check out the views...they were simply breathtaking. I took so many wonderful photos. But I really hope I get to come here and experience the real thing day after day. :)
We eventually came to our current hotel (Best Western...not as great as La Quinta but it's quite liveable) and hung out for a bit. I called Corey and basically told him over and over that he needs to apply here, and Mumika found all of these AMAZING opportunities for UC Boulder students who know what they want to study right off the bat (aka Q Yankes). Pretty soon, we decided to go back to campus to see a dance show that was advertised on the website...and that started a whole ADVENTURE in itself!!
So we got to campus, found a parking spot, and tried to find the building that the show was going to be in. We were only about 20 minutes early, and we didn't know if we needed to buy tickets or anything beforehand, so we were a tad bit rushed...we went to what we thought was the right building, and encountered four UCB students trying to find it as well. It turns out that two of them were from the student press, coming to write an article on the show. Well, the six of us circled the building, trying every possible door, until we came to the very last door (which looked like it led backstage). We went in despite its dubious appearance, and searched the building for the theater. There was nobody around. Uh-oh. We went to the box office: closed. Costume department: closed. Set storage: completely closed. Finally, we ran into some dancers and asked them where the show was, and they replied, "Oh, you're looking for THAT? But that was a year ago!"
So this show had accidentally made it to the weekend events list, although it was a year late. The press students in particular were quite amused. They started forming their article out loud..."We thought this show was inspirational! Breathtaking! Simply ingenious! And also a year ahead of schedule!" or perhaps "Despite the fact that we arrived at this performance an entire year late, we thought it was quite clever and deserving of another few years of performances." It was very silly. :P We all said our good-byes after leaving the theater in embarassment, and Mumika and I wandered over to the student center to see what was going on...
Chocolate root beer floats and very good-looking architecture students. That's all I really have to say about that ADVENTURE.
Finally we came in a rather round-about fashion to the hotel, and here I am now! Tomorrow I have an official tour, and after that I'll check out the departments I want to completely take over with my good looks, charm, and eagerness to learn study in.
(And, just between you and me, UC Boulder is simply fantastic. I think it's wormed its way to the very top of my college list. I'm simply in love with everything about it!)
P.S. Mumika and I got almost-matching bracelets today, and they're wonderful, and we're going to wear them forever. They're basically our new "Umbilical Cord."
P.S.S. Speaking of umbilical cords, I had another really creepy dream about giving birth. But this time I loved the baby. Desperately. But someone (a person I know in real life, though I refuse to give any names here) killed the child. Drowned him. I was furious beyond wordly expression. But I really can't say any more.
Anyways. Goodnight!
