*tests the air* Feels about the same.
So yesterday I went to
Fernbank Museum of Natural History, which I hadn't done in quite some years. I'd meant to go all year because of their "
Ends of the Earth" exhibition which had stuff on the Arctic and Antarctic, but kept putting it off and therefore saw it one of the last 3 days it was there.
The exhibition and museum were both disappointing. For one thing, I kept pining for the
Field Museum in Chicago. For another...I don't know what it is about exhibitions like this, but the world does not, in fact, revolve around children. I would have liked to have seen more historical stuff about the exploration and some more detail about core samples and the ice sheets. I would also have liked just slightly less "climate change" stuff. Yes, the environment is important, but I think that instead of arguing about whether climate change is happening and whether humans are causing it we should instead be focusing on changes closer to home...clean water and clean air are important and have much shorter-term solutions. Plus, more research is needed before we can argue about it intelligently.
I did see a pretty awesome IMAX movie on Antarctica, which was much better than the actual exhibition. SCUBA divers in the Antarctic...diving under glaciers...diving into glaciers...better them than me, but awesome photography.
Then I went home and then I went to a New Year's party and had some great conversations with friends I don't see often enough. Today I'm invited to a movie (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and to watch football on TV, but frankly the temptation to stay home all day is very strong. We'll have to see what I actually do later.
I also updated my
Gallery yesterday with pictures from
October,
November and
December at the Aquarium. A press release got sent out the other day, so I guess I can post this picture now.
One of 12 baby
spotted wobbegong sharks that were born in the exhibit a few days ago. More in the
Gallery.
