Picture post

Been a while since I posted any new pics from the aquarium.  On the other hand, it's not like people have been clamboring for them, so maybe it was just as well.  The reason there's been no picposts lately is because I moved my website and wanted to get everything stable before I started putting new stuff on it.  Why'd I move my site?  In a nutshell, Fuitadnet, my old provider, failed to respond to two very simple support questions.  I sent them those questions via email 25 (TWENTY FIVE) times before I finally got an answer.  So I voted with my wallet and jumped ship.

Featured in this entry are Southern Sea Otters, Giant Guitarfish, Beluga Whales, and a baby Zebra Shark.

Oz and Gracie were pretty sociable that morning.

This one didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped, and you may have to view the full-size image before you can see it, but if you look very carefully you can see Maris trying to nurse on Natasha.  Of course Maris is 11 or 12 years old and should be over that by now, but she's never been separated from her mother and I guess it makes her feel comfortable.

We got two new Giant Guitarfish.  This shows the one we already had and one of the new ones so you can see how much smaller the new ones are.  I don't know why they're hanging out together, but it's a nice contrast.

Nico, one of our beluga whales, developed a bump on his head a few weeks ago.  It came to a head and was rather large (we were making jokes that he was turning into a unicorn or a narwhal) and then the biologists lanced it.  We learned later that it was a fungal infection, which we are trying to learn the origin of.  Now it's just a big wound on his head.  It's yellow in this picture because that's the color of the Tricide, a waterproof antibiotic ointment, that we're using to treat it.

And now the moment you've all been waiting for, the baby zebra shark.  In this picture she (we think it's a she) was about 2 days old. She's in the aquaculture lab, so if you take a behind-the-scenes tour you can see her.

In other news, I've been watching old episodes (are there any other kind?) of Fraggle Rock and The Muppet Show lately.  I'd forgotten how good The Muppet Show was.  I've also been re-reading Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.  Good times.  I've also been going through my Magic: The Gathering cards.  I've decided that instead of pieces of cardboard that I don't play with anymore I'd rather have thinner, greener paper with pictures of dead presidents on them.  So I'm gonna sell them, at long last.  Must be something going around...my dad finally sold the Mazda RX-7 that had been sitting immobile in our driveway for the last several years.

ARTC show coming up on April 28 and 29.  Save the date!  And check out artcradio or www.artc.org for more details.
