Expiration date or no, I don't see how you not being able to redeem an old promotion is the fault of the customer service representatives. If Corporate Offices say the promotion is over, there's not a lot the minimum wage employees can do about it.
Which is why I spoke to the store manager. Having been one, I totally respect the rank-and-file retail employee, so when I have a disagreement with them I always ask for the manager. It's also why I write letters to corporate, and I'm going to start encouraging more people to do so as well.
Give those CSRs a break and go for their bosses. ;)
I routinely bitch and complain (politely, of course) when I don't get quality service or when I get rude or subpar service. As you know quite well, the CSRs aren't responsible for stupid corporate decisions, so, like you, I go for their managers instead, who are being paid to deal with the out-of-the-ordinary.
Contrariwise, I am also quite happy to tell managers and plebes when they've done a good job with something or gone above and beyond the call of duty. The look of shock when someone actually says "Thank you" to them with a smile is almost enough all by itself to make it worthwhile.
