So yet another bumper crop of A-level results are announced today with 8% of our super brainy students gaining the new A* grade. Indeed it is reported that 97.6% of entrants achieved an E grade or above. Does this suggest that only 2.4% of entrants actually fail an A-level in these modern times? A staggeringly small number methinks, but on the other hand not surprising in a system where no student is allowed to feel that they've underachieved. Recently I heard a senior teacher addressing a school assembly saying that the school football team did very well on Saturday, they came second!!!
