We are staying a week in Vienna and a week in Innsbruck. However when we are in Innsbruck we will be taking plenty of day trips including Salzburg and other places around. We are also considering Munich as one but haven't settled entirely on that yet!
And definitely sightseeing. I tried skiing once. Never again!
Sounds great! If you need informations, don't hesitate to ask. At the end of the year you could try out and compare the various "Christkindl"-markets that you might find in all the mentioned cities during the 4 weeks leading up to christmas.
Thanks for the offer! I have a lot of it planned out. Would you recommend a Vienna Pass? We are looking into that. Our hotel is right near central station we worked out (in Vienna) - do you know how far that would be to walk to the city centre?
Oh and the Christmas markets! That has been added to the list for Insbruck. We arrive on the 5th of January there and they end on the 6th so I think we are going to check it out on the final day.
If you want to do the Hop-on-Hop-off-Bus Tour around Vienna and visit some places, then yes, buy the Vienna Pass. It's a matter of calculating the entry fees; in any case it's a good way of saving time because you don't have to queue to buy the tickets.
Near the central station is the museum of history of war and the Belvedere; to get to the other attractions and the city center I'd recommend taking the underground. (The Vienna Pass is available with a travel card option. You don't save much compared to buying tickets once you get there, but you wouldn't have to worry about purchasing the tickets anymore).
Yes, I'm from Austria. Not from Vienna though, but from Carinthia, the province bordering on Slovenia and Italy; the one with the many lakes and gentle mountains.
Which parts of Austria do you wish to see - is it going to be a sightseeing or a skiing holiday?

Do you mind if I ask - are you from Austria or have you been there before? You just seem to have a lot of knowledge and I'm curious :)
