Last night I came to the realization that I've been neglecting my costuming in favor of cross stitching. Specifically, I haven't even started on my outfit for the guild's 18th Century Picnic next weekend.

Several members of the guild are theming up to go to the September VE in 1860's. I have already commited to 1950's with D. If she hadn't already started, I would seriously suggest to her that we jump forward a decade to the 1960's for a "bookend" effect. I think that would also make for an interesting group shot. All-con was this past weekend. I think I have finally recovered. I was tired out, over stressed, and foolishly let my blood sugar get way out of whack. It's looking like there won't be a lecture this weekend. Of the people who had previously expressed a desire to attend, only one doesn't have other commitments (and they are still a maybe) and no one else has popped up to say they're interested. This month's meeting of dfwcg will be a lecture on the basics of Steampunk costuming. If you are interested in coming it will be at 2 PM, October 12th (Sunday), at the Timberglen Library. The fee will be $1 for members and $3 for non-members (to help pay for the room).

Saturday was jenthompson's 18th century stays workshop. I enjoyed that muchly, and learned some new stuff (always a good thing).

I have come to the conclusion that I am addicted to stripes and, by extension, plaid (for what is plaid but dual-directional stripes?). Seriously, almost every fabric I have bought lately has been either striped or plaid. I may need a solids intervention. Stripes are great for 18th century and later, mostly, and are fantastic for Victorian. ( Read more... )
