I'm not even pretending to be close to contemplating the possibilities of having a spencer or pelisse for tomorrow. Seeing as the dress itself isn't sewn together yet. So I'm trying to decide between a fast and dirty fichu or a drapey golden yellow with metallic threads scarf/shawl I already own in case the weather is chilly. I'm leaning toward the scarf/shawl. (See above re: the dress itself) There will be no hattage (Gasp! The scandal!), but I did find a tutorial for a Regency-style 'do for long hair that doesn't require cutting in a fringe to look good.
Ah well. I'm attending the picnic to see my fellow costumers, not to have a new pretty. Assuming I don't have a total wreck of a dress at the end of all this, I do want to finish the trimmings, and make the spencer and maybe even a bonnet. I love the color I chose, and it's a very forgiving dress (should I actually start losing weight again). The trim I want to do is very simple, but very time-consuming--which is why it won't be done for tomorrow. Maybe I'll keep trudging through and enter the final product in next year's On My Own Time. Since D isn't here anymore, I might actually get some recognition. (D always entered these fabulous, but not exactly historically accurate, gowns. Meanwhile, I would enter not nearly as flashy, but quite a bit more accurate, gowns. The judges always went for flashy. Not that I'm bitter or anything.)
