I think The Universe is conspiring to punish my procrastination. *sigh* The Timeless Polonaise will not be completed for VE this weekend.
Wanna know why?
Last Thursday I noticed a brand-new water stain in the ceiling of my closet. I shift stuff around to the other side of my closet and go by the office to report it. For a little bit of reference, I live on the top floor of my building. This means there shouldn't be any pipes above me to leak, which in turn means it could only be a roof leak causing the stain. We were expecting Hurricane Ike to rain on us all day Saturday. I wanted them to come and see if it could be fixed before that, or at least patched to minimize further water infiltration until they could fix it proper. I get home Thursday evening to discover the work order stating that they painted over the stain. That's it. So I go back to the office on Friday asking if that really was it, or were they actually trying to fix the leak or what was going on. Office Chica assures me she will bring it up with Maintenance to see what's going on. I get home Friday evening and there is no evidence that anything has been done in my apartment (like getting up into the attic to see what's going on) or on the roof (like maybe putting out a tarp or something). Not Happy am I. I wake up Saturday to discover--surprise!--water in my closet. I keep tabs on it through the day and when water starts dripping out around the light fixture I decide it's time to empty everything out of that closet. I have stuff piled around everywhere because I apparently have a TARDIS for a closet (I don't know how else that much stuff could fit in there). I also had stuff already covering my work table and half the floor of my office because I emptied out the fabric closet Thursday so they could get to the attic hatch. So now I have nowhere to work on anything that requires more than my lap for space. I can't even use my computer until I shift some stuff so I can use my coffee table. Anyway. Yesterday I went be the office to complain AGAIN and decided to wait for the maintenance people to come by to make sure they actually did something. They finally went up into the attic and figured out that the water was getting in around a vent. They disappear for a few hours (I will be generous and assume they had to go buy supplies) and when they come back take about 20 minutes to fix the loose vent. *pause to find my happy place* If they had bothered to do the investigation Thursday or even Friday they could have had the problem fixed before the Day O' Rain, and I wouldn't have been so very inconvenienced. I still can't put my closet back in order as they still need to come and paint over the new stains. They won't do that until Wednesday at the earliest so that the gyp. board and attic insulation have a chance to dry. If I'm lucky, I'll have my apartment back in order before I go to bed Wednesday. Hence, the polonaise will not be finished.
I realize that had I not been procrastinating so much I would have been well into handwork or even finished with the entire outfit by now, but still. I will finish it up for whatever our Holiday event will be. I might attempt a sash to go with one of my existing outfits, but otherwise we shall have no new shinies for this Saturday. Oh well. I'm not going just to show off new clothes--that would have just been a secondary benefit.
In other news, I think I have my Halloween costume fairly well nailed down, except for the color of the pants. I can't decide between black, navy, or some shade of brown. While I put my office and fabric closet back in order, I will be setting aside the materials for that costume (another use-up-the-stash endeavor). I need to get cranking on that as I want to have as much of it done as possible to wear for my lecture. Which I also need to get cranking on.
