Victorian Ramblings

I splurged on a bunch of Truly Victorian patterns last night:
TV110, 1880 Late Victorian Corset: I like the lines of this more than the Laughing Moon or Simplicity corsets, and it is from smack in the middle of my preferred Victorian period (Natural Form)
TV170, Victorian Petticoats: TV has another petticoat pattern specifically for the NF years, but 1) it cost more and 2) this one will hopefully be more versitile
TV221, 1878 Tie-Back Underskirt; TV225, 1878 Fantail Skirt; TV428, 1880 Jacket Bodice: These three together will get me quite a ways toward the outfit I want (see ramblings below)
TV410, 1873 Polonaise: Because every girl needs a Polonaise, and I like this one more than the Past Patterns one.

I just realized I forgot to add one to the order. Durnit. I also wanted TV432, 1882 Tea gown. I found a gorgeous tea gown on AntiqueDress.com that I could easily get Teh Momster to wear (instead of the "wrapper" she picked out). She would look fabulous I think, and it wouldn't require a heavy duty structural system (she refuses to wear anything remotely resembling a corset). Is this not stunning? The TV pattern is pretty much dead-on. It would just need a slightly different collar.

But my main reason for the splurge is this. (That is from the fabulous web site of the fabulous jenthompson--there is much that is drool-worthy there. Go take a look. No, really--go ahead. I'll wait) . . . . . (Fabulous, no?) I'm not looking to make an exact reproduction. I love the turned-up overskirt with the bands of trim on the outer and inner sides, and the lines of the jacket.

I think I will make the jacket and overskirt out of my copper silk. I have some polyester "silk" in a greyish lavender (or maybe more of a lavendery grey) that I thought might be good for the primary trim color. Now, I could go for a split complimentary and use yellow-green for a secondary trim color, except I'm not fond of yellow-green. Maybe a sage or mint instead? Or how about teal and yellow--that would set up a double complimentary with the copper and lavender. Ooo! Ooo! Use a teal or peacock for the primary trim and the lavender and (my favorite) maizy yellow for the secondary.

AAAAHHH!! Peacock for the underskirt AND the primary trim on the overskirt and bodice!

I'm liking that. Yes, yes I am.

But I need to print this image off and pull out my prismacolors and see what it would really look like.

Dangit! It's only 10 AM! I wanna go home and color now!
