Ellison is my Congressman. I knew there were people out there who weren't ready for a Muslim in Congress, but I didn't expect the shitstorm to hit this early or over something so inconsequential. Yes, there are sections of the Quran that are antithetical to American law, but the same is true of the Bible.

I took the poll, and there aren't many responses but so far by nearly a 2-to-1 margin, people are saying that there shouldn't be a Muslim in Congress. WTF?!? He's not swearing on the Constitution to uphold the law of Islam, he's swearing on the Quran to UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION. And I can fair well guarantee he'll do an infinitely better job of doing so than oh-so-born-again Bush. Aargh.

Isn't that rediculous? The older I get the more protective I've become over my first amendment rights and the more I fear that one day we'll scare one another into allowing them to be taken away. This guy is the epitome of a politician who uses Scare tactics on his constituents. And it just sickens me.
