Notes:
______

He had been drugged, and acted like a complete, and total idiot.

He was still yelling at himself for apologizing, and, hell, hugging Echo, or, Alice, at the time. It seemed like a weight was lifted from his shoulders, yet another was promptly placed.

And that wasn't even speaking of the feeling that was still smacking him in the face when Adelle scolded him for calling her ma'am.

Like he knew he said before, there were many difference sides to Laurence Dominic.

'There's another world inside of me,
that you may never see.'

The cold, some may even say heartless side that he always shows up with...

'There's secrets in this life that I can't hide
Somewhere in this darkness there's a light that I can't find
Maybe it's too far away....'

Or, the hidden away, stressful, maybe even depressed, side that was stuck in his past.

'Or maybe I'm just blind.'

The one he'd never let show.

' Maybe I'm just blind.'

If he had a choice.

'So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong.'

He didn't want to go back to his past. The past from when he was seventeen, when both his parents died in a bridge accident. When he could barely support himself with his dead end job.

'Hold me when I'm scared and love me when I'm gone.'

When he was too afraid of the world to face it.

Not again.

' Everything I am and everything in me
Wants to be the one you wanted me to be.'

Laurence knew people wondered, almost positive Adelle in particular did. After he turned her down during the meeting for the job, who wouldn't?

' I'll never let you down even if I could
I'd give up everything if only for your good.'

She'd force him to give details if she really wanted them. He had physical power but she had power to do any and all she wanted as long as it wasn't deterred by higher ups. She was his boss, and she knew the firing threat only went so far.

' So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong.
You can hold me when I'm scared you won't always be there.'

What made him wonder is why she hadn't done a thing about it. Adelle had prodded so many times to count during their first meeting, why not now? It wasn't like he wanted her to, but, after that many inquiries, you'd be wondering too.

He sighed heavily as he sat down in his office, running one hand through his hair while trying to forget the thoughts he simply couldn't put out. The thoughts he knew were true. The thoughts about Adelle and about the apology he had so openly written out. 60/100 Adelle.....one part he seriously did not want to accept.

' So love me when I'm gone, love me when I'm gone....'

The two sides of Laurence Dominic, neither appealing.

---

' When your education x-ray cannot see under my skin.'

Adelle rubbed her temples, watching as Echo walked around the main room of the Dollhouse like she always did after she left Topher's lab, not the foggiest idea of what she had done. What had happened.

'I won't tell you a damn thing that I could not tell my friends.'

She sighed, frowning again. All these emotions packed up on top of her were driving her nuts.

' And roaming through this darkness I'm alive but I'm alone.'

Stress, anger, calm, happy, sad, and most recently, love, awkward, and embarrassment.

' Part of me is fighting this but part of me is gone.'

Wait....love?

' So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong.'

Her thoughts flickered over to the ever polite Laurence Dominic, who she had just witnessed go through a bit of embarrassment and awkwardness himself. Who wouldn't? They were all drugged for gods sake!

' Hold me when I'm scared and love me when I'm gone.'

Including her.

' Everything I am and everything in me.'

Must she say that she might have eaten something called....a.....hell, what was it? Rice Crispy treat. There it is.

Damn Topher's Drawer of Inappropriate Starches, damn him and that drawer to hell.

' Wants to be the one you wanted me to be.'

Oh, and then climbing over the railing oh so gracefully and acting like....like a lunatic!

Adelle side number one: The British, rice crispy and cheetos eating, drugged childlike idiot.

' I'll never let you down even if I could.'

Adelle side number two: The British, serious businesswoman. Which she had no doubt had even the smallest attraction to her co-worker.

Guess who.

' I'd give up everything if only for your good.'

Honestly? If he were to ask right now she'd blurt it out. One less weight of the many on her shoulders. Right now, she seriously needed help taking them off, and she wasn't sure whether she wanted to have the help. Adelle was stronger then most, she could pull through.

' So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong.'

Right?

'You can hold me when I'm scared, you won't always be there.'

"Or, perhaps, I may think too highly of myself." She whispered in her accent to the silence which she knew wouldn't listen.

' So love me when I'm gone.'

Adelle looked up at the screen, blinked, and shut the monitor off. To hell with it all. She thought as she stood.

---

' Maybe I'm just blind.'

"Damn it." Laurence growled. He was not going back to that other side of himself. He was going to stay on the side that was a hell of alot better then the other. However...

Heaving a final sigh, Laurence started back towards Adelle's office. That conversation was not over just yet.

' So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong.'

---

Adelle's thoughts were now on how she would reveal herself to Laurence, not on where she was going and such, which she'd be rather right to stop and think about it as she rounded the corner, and ran, quite literally, into the one she was seeking out.

' Hold me when I'm scared and love me when I'm gone.
Everything I am and everything in me
Wants to be the one you wanted me to be.'

It lasted only a few seconds, but their lips connected slightly, Adelle arching an eyebrow at Laurence who already had an apology on his lips.

' I'll never let you down even if I could
I'd give up everything if only for your good.'

One she didn't want to hear.

' So hold me when I'm here, right me when I'm wrong
You can hold me when I'm scared, you won't always be there
So love me when I'm gone.'

One she certainly didn't hear.

' Love me when I'm gone, whoa,'

And one she didn't hear, because Adelle had the power to do any, and all she wanted to do.

' Love me when I'm gone, when I'm gone.'

The two sides of Adelle Dewitt.

One she'd like to fall off the face of the planet, the other she'd live through.

'When I'm gone, when I'm gone.'
