Procrastination Princess strikes again

I should be well on my way to my parents' house right now, with a fully packed car and an organized apartment. Instead, I am sitting at my dining room table, with no further packing done, reading the news and wasting time. I'm reminded of my early college days; ok maybe middle college days, early for Christendom but a few years into higher education as a whole. I would get in these situations where I just couldn't accomplish what needed to be done until it was the last minute. In the mean time I was perfectly happy wandering around, visiting, and doing things that weren't really pressing but were fun to do anyway. I even made a princess wand at one point, and just might have had a tiara if I'm not mistaken. So I'm at it again, and I'm just fine with that :)

My mom visited this weekend and took home a carload of my things with her. She got in late Friday night and was pleasantly surprised by my apartment and the state of my life in general. I feel a bit bad that this whole time she thought I was living in a scary place and didn't have any direction. It's a shame it took her this long to learn that I'm just fine, but I was glad to alleviate her concerns. We had a great time just hanging out; we haven't done that in a long time. Saturday morning we went to the national zoo. They have this great overhead system of towers and ropes that the orangutans apparently travel across. The signs said they usually do this at around 11am. We missed it but I am considering going back one day just to try to catch a glimpse. Most of the animals weren't too active, but it was a nice random day of people watching and spending time. I took her on a driving tour of DC and drove to the National Basilica. She wouldn't go in, but at least we were on the grounds for a few minutes. When we got back to the apartment she helped me pack. Sunday we loaded her car with some furniture and boxes and off she went.

While all that was going on, my body decided to become allergic to an antibiotic I was taking for ear infections. The random swelling and rashes that were happening were really not fun! I tried to get in touch with my doctor after talking with the pharmacist, but it was Sunday and all I got was a neverending circle of messages and switchboards. Everything is a bit more back to normal today, but I'm bummed to realize that as time goes on I am becoming more and more like my mom in the random allergies she developed in adulthood. If I am like her, the next thing to go will be my ability to eat shellfish; definitely not good for the girl who loves crab and shrimp.

Ok, enough avoiding what must be done. I'm off to finish packing and head north. (I just need to remember to pack an outfit for the wedding!) See you in Atlantic City!
