I just got back yesterday from Nawlins for MaRDi GrAs!
It was awesome! I'm glad I went...it humbled me a bit. The city is by no means up and running again like the rest of us in America think. Far from it actually. The entire city was pretty much shut down. Fast food places were paying 12$ an hour just to get people to work. Nothing was open. No gas stations, no restaurants, no Wal-Marts, no Traffic Lights. Nobody is there and the people that are there are bitter. They hate the government right now. FEMA sucks, I agree. You should see those trailers they live in. One of the people that we hung out with down there was my age and he was provided a FEMA trailer...he said when he had to use the bathroom he had to keep the door open because his legs couldn't fit in there. Abandoned cars were in rivers, piled under bridges. Brand new apartment complexs were completely abandoned. We were driving in Suburbia and had to suddenly dodge a house that had imploded and landed right in the middle of the street. A little further down there was a house and written in spray paint on the roof was, "Husband, Wife, 3 month old baby. No food, no water please help."
